Airing opposite Gladiators on BBC One, the show held its own in a highly competitive timeslot—proving there’s a real appetite for fresh, family-friendly entertainment on Saturday nights.
Produced by Initial (a Banijay UK company), 99 To Beat brings together 100 contestants from across the UK for six episodes of laugh-out-loud challenges, intense competition, and unpredictable twists. The only rule? Don’t come last. The final contestant standing wins a £25,000 cash prize.
The Belgian format, originally created by VRT and De Chinezen in 2018, has become a global success, with adaptations in twelve countries, including multiple series in Germany (Sat.1), the Netherlands (SBS) and Norway (WBD).
The UK launch follows the strong Italian debut of 99 da battere on RAI2, which launched in January with standout ratings and broad demographic appeal—particularly among younger viewers.
