Next Stop for Zero Stars: UK

News-item
PRIMITIVES LICENSES ZERO STARS TO WARNER BROS. DISCOVERY UK

We are delighted to announce the first UK commission for breakout hit Zero Stars, making the UK the sixth European country to invest in the Danish-originated format.

Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) UK has commissioned a new 8 x 60 mins series, to be produced by BAFTA-winning CPL Productions and slated to TX in early 2026. The UK remake, which was commissioned by Charlotte Reid, VP Commissioning at WBD UK & Ireland, and brokered by Emma Gosling, Primitives’ manager of sales and acquisitions, will see comedians and BFFs Roisin Conaty and Sara Pascoe journey across the globe - staying, eating and experiencing places with only the funniest and worst reviews in search of a truly unique experience they wouldn’t get from a five-star beach resort.

Originally conceived by Copenhagen-based creative digital agency Liquidminds, Zero Stars launched in 2019 on DR2 Denmark, where it has gone on to deliver seven successful seasons. The Danish series follows two childhood friends and committed travellers, comedian Jan Elhøj and self-styled adventurer Morten Kirckhoff, as they set out to prove that the best adventures can and do start in the unlikeliest of places.

The two men embark on their quest about as far away as it’s possible to get from an Insta-friendly five-star holiday: by visiting the worst-reviewed places on TripAdvisor. But far from ending in disappointment, this ‘zero-star’ approach leads the friends into a series of fascinating experiences in weirdly wonderful locations — experiences that introduce them to new people, traditions and customs, challenging stereotypes, attitudes and judgements along the way.

In addition to the original Danish format, which has been recommissioned by DR for an eighth and ninth season, Zero Stars has been adapted for Norway, where it has just finished its second series on Warner Bros. Discovery, Sweden (Discovery) and Belgium (Play4). The format has also been optioned by Rabbit TV in Finland, Monday Media in the Netherlands, Fremantle in France and also optioned in Poland.
