UK broadcaster ITV1 and ITVX has commissioned a local version of Belgium hit gameshow format 99 To Beat. Initial (part of Banijay UK) will produce the 8x60’ series with a tx date to be confirmed. The format is internationally distributed by Belgium format distributor Primitives.
Originally developed by VRT & De Chinezen, "99 To Beat" has already achieved success in seven countries, including multiple series in the Netherlands (Talpa Network/SBS6), Poland (Warner Bros Discovery) and a recent commission for a fifth series by Sat1 in Germany.
Belgium's 6th season successfully launched on VRT1 last Saturday with 638,869 viewers and a marketshare of 36.3% (4+). Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Discovery Norway is launching it's second season tonight in the prime time 8:30pm slot.
99 To Beat is the gameshow that anyone can win, but there’s one rule that players must follow if they’re to be in with a chance of walking away with the cash prize – Don’t. Come. Last. The series kicks off with 100 contestants who face off in a series of visually distinctive and often hilarious games. After each round, one player will get eliminated with only one person taking the top prize at the end of the game.
Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment Commissioning ITV said: “99 To Beat brings 100 people together to set upon this extraordinary game where there is really only one rule, Don't Come Last. As the contestants compete, they also form tight bonds and as they get to know each other, we get to see who plays well, who buckles under the pressure and who has lasting power.”
Simone de Pruyssenaere de la Woestyne, Director Sales & Acquisitions at Primitives said: “We are really excited about 99 To Beat coming to the UK audience. Its highly entertaining format grounded in a simple, yet compelling premise is its biggest asset. We can’t wait to see this new version and are convinced it will captivate and entertain viewers across the UK.
