Primitives, the Belgian specialist distributor of TV formats, has licensed a Spanish adaptation of the celebrity comedy game show And the Rest Is History to Spain’s public broadcaster RTVE. The local version (12x60’) will be produced by Mediacrest.
The Spanish adaptation will be titled Aprobado en Historia and will be hosted by Joaquín Reyes. The series is scheduled to premiere on channel La2 in Spring 2026.
Spain is not a new territory for the format. And the Rest Is History previously aired on Movistar, where it ran successfully for eight seasons. With this new commission, RTVE reintroduces the format to the Spanish market with a fresh public-broadcast iteration.
And the Rest Is History is a celebrity comedy game show built around historical storytelling and factual discovery. In each episode, four celebrity contestants compete across six rounds, uncovering the real stories behind archive photographs, historical objects and notable events. Combining factual insight with humor, the format offers a contemporary and accessible take on history for a broad audience. The format originated with Woestijnvis in Belgium, where it aired on Play4.
Says Fernando Jerez, Director of Non-Fiction at Mediacrest: “We are very proud to bring back a format that perfectly combines comedy and educational content, and to do so in prime time on the strong schedule of RTVE, Spain’s public broadcaster”.
Simone de Pruyssenaere de la Woestyne, Managing Director at Primitives adds: “The return of And the Rest Is History to Spain with RTVE highlights the format’s enduring appeal. We’re excited to see it reimagined for a new audience in partnership with Mediacrest”.
